SCOUT HQ: GO BO + GO Barbie

Hi Barbie(s)! Join us in looking back on our favorite night of the year, the annual GO BO Party. As Barbie says, “It is the best day ever. So was yesterday, and so is tomorrow, and every day from now until forever.”

Allow us to illuminate you as any great Barbie would and tell you about the incredible GO BO Fund. After beating pediatric cancer, Bo Johns, Deb and Ben’s son, began the multigenerational effort with his siblings, Gussie, Gibson, and Tucker, alongside their peers, to plan a massive party every September, the weekend following Labor Day Weekend, and encourage others to contribute to a cause deeply important to the Johns family and the greater Georgetown community.

Over the course of Bo’s treatment, Bo and his family recognized the need to give back to the children in the Pediatric Oncology unit and their families. The Johns have always believed it takes a village to keep grassroots fundraising afloat, and there is no denying the community has come together to make this possible and successful. And as long as there are children with cancer we as a SCOUT and greater Washington community will continue to raise awareness and funds for this impactful cause.

Every early autumn the Johns Family hosts the themed GO BO celebration in the backyard of their Georgetown home. And, GIRL, is it FUN. This year “Barbie” was very appropriately selected as the theme. How could we not? We’re a team of strong, intelligent, vibrant, hilarious, and beautiful women and men! It just makes sense! Of course, the Team coordinates costumes and spreads the word within our own DC networks, so our family and friends can also have the opportunity to give back and boogie on down in Deb and Ben’s FABULOUSLY decorated backyard. Note, Ben (his job is pool) was the ultimate Ken with his homemade pink cast, and he was most certainly “Benough.”

You’ll notice we heavily utilize the pool house and use of giant pool floats and lighting when decorating. We bedecked our Barbie dreamhouse with all kinds of new school and old school Barbie treasures, and of course, floor to ceiling pink. There were no semblances of Mojo Dojo Casa House in sight, this was strictly BARB.

Of course, the decor is jaw dropping, but it doesn’t stop there. The food, open bar, dance floor, band, and raffle prizes are simply next level. Sarah Turk, our Digital Marketing & E-Commerce Coordinator (who says she never wins anything), won a trip to go to Live with Andy Cohen. Emily Stevenson, our Digital Marketing Manager, brought her sister to the party, who very aptly stated, “I felt like I was at an exclusive influencer event.” With color changing cups, a cotton candy machine, pink, pickled deviled eggs, and pink SCOUT gift bags, “every night is girls night,” at GO BO.

Overall, it was an absurdly fun night and the perfect way for the community to step up in an impactful way with generous hearts and giving spirits. And it doesn’t stop there. We encourage you to follow @gobofund on Instagram for more photos, facts, and information about ways to give back to this fabulous organization all year round!
