Behind the Design: Express Your SCOUT

Behind the Design: Express Your SCOUT

Happy almost February, diva! In honor of this highly totable season, we’re sharing a trend that surprises and delights us maximalists at SCOUT HQ. This week, we aim to brighten and liven up your gray days of trudging to and fro with color and self-expression. We’re adding cheer, flair, and Jane Birkin-ifying our bags for February, because, why not?! Bonus? None of our products have a $32k price tag, because diva, that would be nuts.

Ok, so now for quick fashion history. The famous Birkin bag by Hermes was named after French-American actress, Jane Birkin, after the Hermes Art Director was seated next to her on a flight and noticed a pocketless tote bag overflowing with her day-to-day effects. Jane’s vibe (yes, we’re on a first name basis) was eccentric and real, and we love that.

Interestingly enough, our products are built to carry all your goodies and notebooks and snacks and sneakers and lip gloss and Bala Bangles, and the list goes on. You can naturally make SCOUT your own by choosing a product and pattern that suits you and filling it with the things you need and love, but we think it’s fun to add an extra layer of individualization. Selecting patterns you love and mixing and matching them in your own ways is one way of making SCOUT your own.

But, people forget you can also add monogramming for ultra personal flair. One fun and cheeky thing about monogramming is choosing a word or phrase you personally identify with. Quirky examples may include: aioli, oy vey!, carbonara, k bye, demure, cutesy, deviled egg, to name a few.

You may have seen people wrapping their Hermes scarves around the handles of their bags. This is fabulous, but you can totally grab your favorite bandana or your favorite vintage silk scarf from your MeMe and add it to your SCOUT bag handle as well. This pattern on pattern connected by color is refreshing and unique to you. This technique also comes in handy when you need to cover your head or tie your hair back!

And, while we’re talking about bandanas and casual “add ons” to straps and handles, you can also just simply knot for added style, as opposed to the more intricate wrap. We love a jingle and a jangle and a clink and a clank, and boy, do decorative fobs and bobs and key chains add these exact sounds (and fun) to a daily bag or accessory. One is demure and multiple is cutesy for a more over the top feel. Brooches and pins also act as fabulous lapels for bags. Just add one that feels meaningful or a cluster for maximum impact.

So, divas, this year, please feel free to go as big and bold as you like. Self expression is an art form. Allow our bags to be your canvas and accessories to be your paints and brushes. All the product we featured in this post are new arrivals for Spring 2025, so she’s new. Of course, feel free to also reach for our Statement Collection or Signature patterns as well. There’s no right way to do this, so let’s have fun and live a little!
