The blossoms are blooming, and the city is buzzing with springtime bliss in the District of Columbia, my friends. Lucky for us, our talented and wonderful Photography Production Manager, Erin Fox, is giving us a glimpse into a light and flower-filled day in her DC life. With the cherry blossoms in full bloom and sun setting after 6 PM, there’s plenty of natural scenery and local spots to soak in this spring.
Erin kicks off her sunny Saturday as many of us do with a good, old fashioned trip to Trader Joe’s. Though TJ’s is not exclusive to Washington, DC, it’s an important space for Erin as it is “her life,” plus it helps her “keep the floral theme we have going here.” Erin is all of us, and we are Erin. There’s simply no denying that this kooky little supermarket has the best flowers and snacks, so stocking up for Saturday was a must. Thank goodness for her Original Deano in our DC pattern (showcasing local and historic destinations in our fabulous toile) from the SCOUT STATEment Collection or Erin wouldn’t have been able to lug all her goodies home in style!
Naturally, Erin headed down to Dupont Circle through Meridian Hill Park, a multi-level park nestled between the Columbia Heights and Adams Morgan neighborhood near her apartment. The move was to grab pastel lattes and pastries from D Light Cafe & Bakery. This local Ukrainian bakery always has florals on display out front, and as a Creative, Erin simply cannot pass up something so visually appetizing. With all the walking she planned to do, D Light had the pretty and yummy fuel she needed.
Time for more florals! The Anderson House near Dupont currently has a fabulous exhibit called Art in Bloom. This popular event fills the historic headquarters with floral arrangements inspired by the art and architecture of Anderson House. These arrangements have been created by more than 30 of Washington’s most innovative floral designers. You can choose to explore the floral sculptures and tour the museum or register for floral demonstrations led by several of the professional florists. Honestly, there has never been anything more Erin-esque to partake in. Does it get any lovelier?!
Beautiful floral arrangements can really work up one’s appetite, so Erin popped into Chiko in Dupont for a fast casual lunch. The lunch menu is unreal with savory treasures like Bulgogi Tots, Cumin Lamb Stir Fry, and Citrus Tuna Lettuce Cups. There are also plenty of veggie and gluten free options for those who wish to order.
After refueling, Erin capped off the afternoon with a visit to the iconic Tidal Basin near the National Mall where the Cherry Blossom Festival is held yearly. The perfect view at dusk is the one across the basin, facing the Jefferson Memorial.
There are few moments more special and sacred to experience than these when living in Washington, DC, and the beauty of it all reminds us of how special it is to be a resident of such a sacred city. So, let that be your sign to come visit our SCOUT family’s wonderful city! But don’t forget to pack your DC pattern, if you want to look like a real local.
