It’s that time of year again when he sees you when you’re sleeping and knows when you’re awake! Deborah Santa Johns and her team of crazy elves/team members are back on their North Pole game for Christmas 2022. As many of you may know, every year the SCOUT team and the greater Washington DC community participates in Letters to Santa, a program designed to support underserved families in the DC area during the holiday season.
Thirty years ago, when Deb first got involved with Letters to Santa, the letters were delivered through the post office. Today, families are encouraged to send letters about their kids with clothing and shoe sizes and other gift requests via fax machine. We’re not exaggerating when we say letters start flooding in on the first of DC public school openings. When you believe, you receive, and at SCOUT, Santa always delivers.
There is an art and passion to selecting both fun and practical gifts for our families. We are humbled and thankful to have the help of our friends, family, SCOUT team members, and DC community to help with all the extra shopping, wrapping, and gift delivery.
Of course, the wrapping wouldn’t truly be wrapping without an array of SCOUT bags to tote our gifts in bulk. We pack each of our family’s gifts in 4 Boys Bags for optimal travelability and storage later on. These large, lightweight, weather-proof bags are perfect for packing in any car, for in-home storage, and for moving any household items that require more volume.
Like folklore, the tradition of Letters to Santa gets passed on with the spread of our fax number and word of mouth. We truly look forward to this all year long. Bringing warmth and joy to local families is impactful and nostalgic. Everyone has the ability to participate however they’re able. So, remember, Santa is watching! Happy holidays from our family to yours.
