What's In the (Deano) Bag: Talk of the Town in Tennessee

Essential Things To Pack For Vacation: The Ultimate Guide With Stylish SCOUT Bags Reading What's In the (Deano) Bag: Talk of the Town in Tennessee 4 minutes

This Nashville native, or as Uber drivers call them, a “unicorn,” is lugging her Original Deano in Tennessee wherever the Smoky Mountain winds take her. Whether it’s the new Lockeland Springs neighborhood bakery, or a hike to Foster Falls on the Cumberland Plateau, her Deano is doing the Lord’s work and carrying it all. Join our teammate Rebecca *and a pattern so darlin’ it would make Dolly holler* for a week roaming around Music City and beyond...

The most challenging thing about bringing a SCOUT bag out in Nashville, let alone in a Tennessee-themed pattern, is that people will want to talk about it, and they’ll be on you like hair on a biscuit until you tell them which retailer carries it.

For southerners, SCOUT has been a highly popular choice of bag since the dawn of time. Much akin to the Beanie Baby craze of the 90s, these people want to build their collection. The beauty of the SCOUT Tennessee pattern - part of our popular STATEment Collection - is how nostalgic and true to our personality it is. From the iconic Rock City barn on your way to Chattanooga to the Memphis Beale Street sign, and Nashville’s Parthenon (we’re the "Athen’s" of the south, ya hear?!), every nod means something to a Tennessean. Like, a woman at the pool asked if we were making quilts in this pattern… We’re looking at you, Deb!

This bag is a toolbox, trashcan, and treasure chest all in one. If this Deano isn’t waiting like a loyal labrador at Rebecca’s front door, then it’s most certainly in the back seat of her Subaru. As an active busy body, Rebecca traverses the limits of the city daily.

Rebecca's parents live in the complete opposite direction of her East Nashville neighborhood (aka West, lol). She visits them far too often but can't resist sitting on the back porch. On her way over to their neck of the woods, Rebecca's known to pick up a bottle of wine at her local shop, then stop for the pimento cheese hero her dad likes when she’s more than halfway there, then maybe one more stop for something like leeks at the Whole Foods. ALL of these are going straight into the wonderful Mary Poppins bag.

There’s something truly joyful about bringing even the smallest things to those you love in a bag with so much meaning. Sadly, Rebecca has promised to give her Deano to her mother for the time being and use her back up in (now sold out) Flow Rida pattern. We highly recommend owning more than one Deano - and there are countless patterns to pick from.

You never know where a weekend can take you in this town. Recently the wildflowers were blooming at a local greenway, Shelby Bottoms. The flowers were truly out of a fairy tale and covered in butterflies, bumblebees, and other delightful pollinating friends. With ample sunscreen and water bottles in the backseat, Rebecca had everything she needed to aid her heat-conscious boyfriend. And, we love that. Plus there was plenty of room to pick up a loaf from the new local bakery, Mama Bread, and ice cream for a Labor Day brat kickback with their friends. Nothing goes better together than Vanilla and sauerkraut.

With all the trails and greenways in Tennessee, this bag is also ideal for tossing your stinky, smelly, and potentially tick-covered clothing. There’s also loads of room for hiking boots, tennis shoes, sandals, you name it. With water-resistant fabric that wipes clean, funky smells won’t stand a chance against a Clorox wipe or hose down. We don’t want to get Alpha-gal in this house! It’s also perfect when living with an arborist who is bound to have something clinging to his shirt after going off trail.

At the end of the day, this tote makes time for you to stop and smell the wildflowers. With all your forget-me-nots and library books in tow, you’ll basically feel invisible/sane. If you love your state as much as we do, grab yourself one in our STATEment Collection. And don’t forget to look out for little easter eggs for your own state, like Dolly’s butterfly on ours.
