Where some find cooler temps to be restrictive to personal style, the good people of Paris, Milan, and London attain the highest forms of self expression with the help of shoes and boots, jackets, and color. These three directions are trending strongly for the season in Europe and, naturally, these trends will make their way across the pond to us. I’m sure many of us could use a dash of inspiration. This week Deb directs us (fashion) forward with a fabulous forecast.

First on the list we have close-toed shoes and boots. Deb spotted some really powerful stompers overseas, and we should absolutely be leaning into a power platform or bad ass riding boots. From exaggerated platforms to metallic Chelsea boots and desert boot variations, the foot future is looking vibrant while at the same time practical. Tall boots, 60s inspired, buckle details, and ladylike slings all aim for wearability, walkability, coverage, and chic-ness.

It can be burdensome to invest in various coats and jackets. A staple like the trench that can be worn atop chunky sweaters, dresses, going out, work wear, and even exercise garments, is the ultimate weapon to add to your winter arsenal. Again, a trench screams chic and is always appropriate. The trenches range from traditional khaki to super long designer versions. Take your pick of novelty pleating, denim, or far-out colors.

Speaking of colors, the colors are electric over there! It’s safe to say a relatively common thought is our fear of color in the wintertime. Sometimes it feels wrong! Like a betrayal to our natural surroundings. We must ditch this thinking and dive headfirst into hot and baby pinks, violet, moss, and even neon orange. Go head-to-toe acid green, yellow, orange, or intermingle opposing hues to punctuate other neutrals. There is an immense amount of freedom and joy derived from rocking a super loud garment. I mean, why do you think the orange Carhartt beanie is so popular? We need to be feeling and acting like we’re living in a Dr. Seuss hardback.

Acquiring a few wardrobe refreshers doesn’t have to break your budget or require an international flight. So many of these treasures can be found at H&M, Zara, and especially your local thrift. Or, if you’re into the rental game like Rent the Runway or Nuuly, these businesses specialize in all things futuristic, fun, and high quality. The best part is reducing your carbon footprint and waste. Whether you buy, rent, or shop within your own closet, we encourage you to have some fun this winter and be your most authentic self. You deserve it.
